KEEPING THE ECONOMIC CONTINUATION WITH BEAS PERELEK

Indonesia is indeed famous for its eastern culture. In addition to hospitality, the characteristic is sharing with each other. This culture is also implicated in traditions. One of them is Perelek. This tradition is carried out by many people in West Java.

KEEPING THE ECONOMIC CONTINUATION WITH BEAS PERELEK

Is that Beas Perelek? Beas Perelek is a tradition of voluntary collection of rice for those who are capable, and the results of this collection will be allocated to the surrounding community who are less fortunate and to the disaster victims (Nurhasanah, 2018). This tradition is done in a unique way, residents only set aside a spoonful of rice to the right bamboo every day, and will be taken every week. The day the officer collects a spoonful of rice to the place of the person. (Java, n.d)

Beas Perelek Tradition

This tradition is very useful and has been felt by the people who do it. The benefits are:

  • Overcoming food stocks in the event of a disaster. With existing stocks, food needs when a disaster occurs can be overcome without having to wait for outside assistance;
  • For the most demanding needs, it can be cashed in. For example, when helping someone who needs money for urgent needs.
  • For the construction of village facilities and infrastructure. For example, helping finance the construction of village roads, making waterways, etc.
  • To fulfill equipment needed for celebration at the RT level. For example the provision of plates, glasses and other buffet equipment.

To help investment / community capital in running a business. For example, capital to trade. (Hidayat, 2017)
If the benefits are summed up, this tradition has small-scale benefits to maintain life in the economic field for the people around who carry out Beas Perelek.
