OPUDI FISH, SOUTH SULAWESI ENDEMIC FISH
Indonesia is a country rich in endemic animals and plants. Examples are Bali starling (Bali) and proboscis monkey (Kalimantan). However, not many have ever heard of Opudi fish, an endemic animal from South Sulawesi.
Opudi (Telmatherina Celebensis) is an animal that is commonly found in Lima Lakes, which is located in the middle of Sulawesi, namely Lake Mahalona, Lake Wawantoa, Lake Matano, Lake Masapi, and Lake Towuti. Its unique shape makes many people interested in maintaining Opudi. It is said that Opudi was very easy to find on the edge of the lake. They are often found swimming between mangrove roots. Unfortunately, however, the location of Opudi "shifted" to the middle after floating housing (above the lake) began to be built, and the community began to use floating houses under the pond arena. At present Opudi's status is "endangered". Especially with the rampant illegal logging and "human interference" that has been going on for the past few years.
