Description

Coconut squirrel has a medium size with the upper side of the body and an olive brown tail. The bottom is red-brown. The side of the body has a narrow black line. Some subspecies have red hair at the end of the tail. Females have two or three nipples. It weighs around 160-259 g. The size varies, but the length ranges from the head and body 152-224 mm, tail 146-211 mm, and rear legs 38-47 mm.

Its teeth include 2 upper and lower large incisors as seen in all rodents. There are 2 upper premolar teeth and 1 lower premolar tooth on each side of the jaw, and 3 upper and lower molar teeth. Do not have canines.

Habitat

Coconut squirrel can be found in the tropics. Arboreal, and can be found on plantations, bushes, gardens, rainforests, and mangrove forests.

Behavior

These include diurnal animals and are generally found solitary or in small groups. Their activities are usually related to foraging. Often, interactions between squirrels chase each other.

Spread

Coconut squirrels are found throughout the Oriental Territory, including Peninsular Malaysia, Kalimantan, Java, Sumatra, southern Thailand, and other Southeast Asian islands.
