Establishing Ayu Pole, Signs the People's Party Has Started
After the pre-Erau ritual is completed, this festival can also be held. The Sultan will open a people's party that is more than 700 years old with the ritual of establishing ayu. In this ritual, a number of sultanate heirlooms are juxtaposed in the Stinggil Room (Siti Hinggil), Kutai Palace. According to the name of this ritual, the main inheritance that is the focus of this ritual is Piang Ayu.
The so-called Pole Ayu is a heirloom spear that is pinned by a yellow cloth bag. This heirloom spear is named Sangkok Piatu, a spear belonging to the first king of Kutai, Aji Batara Agung Dewa Sakti. In the bag tied to it, there are several other rituals, namely rope juwita, cinde cloth, yellow janur, betel leaf, and areca nut.
Before the ritual begins, Tiang Ayu is laid facing the Sultan's throne. This heirloom is given a yellow mat and is covered in a yellow red cloth called tapak liman. Under the mattress, paintings of four coral dragons and seluang mas were prepared. On both sides of the Ayu Pole, two heirlooms are placed, Gong Raden Galuh and Batu Tamanan.
As a complementary ritual, there are several items prepared, including large candles, small candles, residents, sultan's clothes which are covered by a plate, and braid of coconut leaves called jambak. The completeness is placed in the four corners of Tambakkarang. Other preparations are the offering hall on the right side of the pole for the Ayu Pole. This hall contains residents, sultan's clothes, and a sprawling brook. To the left of the support frame, there is a jar filled with water from Kutai Lama and a bridge containing betel nut.
The implementation of the Piang Ayu was preceded by a ritual performed by the gods (ritual servant women) and belian (ritual servant men) in Belapian Serapo. After the ritual in Serapo Belian, the god and buy sit on the right and left sides of Ayu's Pole. When the Sultan enters the room, all the attendees will stand and the Sultan stands facing Piang Ayu. The gods performed besawai, then Tiang Ayu was appointed by several Keraton families and placed in a buffer. After Tiang Ayu stood up, the whole audience prayed together for the smooth Erau Festival.
